Accessbility for Ontarians Disabilities Act (AODA)
As of 2014, all organizations (of 50 employees or more) must ensure that their websites are compliant with AODA Standards. Severe fines can be applied to organizations that do not comply - up to $100,000 for each day of violation. There are varying levels of compliance (Level A, AA and AAA) that are expected depending on the size and type of organization. While websites built after January 1, 2014 must be fully compliant, businessess with pre-existing websites have allowances that allow gradual implementation. All website updates and maintenance made after 2014 must be compliant with the new act.
